We offer 3 levels of cover, so you can choose the policy that best meets your needs.

Basic Protect
For people who employ a carer or personal assistant and are looking for a policy that provides the basic legal insurance requirements.

Care Protect
This policy also provides cover for your legal insurance requirements with added benefits, such as redundancy cover for your carers.

Healthcare Protect
This policy provides the same cover as Care Protect, whilst also providing healthcare liability cover for carers and personal assistants that carry out healthcare duties for you.

What’s included

Care Protect and Healthcare Protect customers can access over 250 training courses. If you employ a PA you will have a level of responsibility and a desire to ensure they have the correct training and skills needed in the workplace. Like in any workplace, often offering training to those in your employment is highly beneficial. Flick will allow you and your employee(s) to gain additional expertise and abilities to promote a safe, functional workspace.

Employer’s Liability

What it covers

  • Cover if a carer makes a claim for compensation because of an injury or illness caused whilst they are carrying out support duties for you. This insurance is required by law.

Some things it doesn’t cover

  • Claims from anyone that is named on the policy as an employer.
  • Claims from a carer, if they have created an unsafe working environment which leads to them being injured. For example, if a carer was to plug in a vacuum cleaner and they then tripped over the wire.

Public Liability

What it covers

  • Covers costs of claims made against you, or your carer whilst with you, by other people or companies. The insurance pays for any compensation that might be awarded because of:
    • Injury.
    • Damage to property not belonging to you or your family.

  • Claims for bodily injury to the employer/care user
  • Damage to property belonging to the employer/care user.

Redundancy cover for carers Find out more

Redundancy cover for carers

What it covers

  • Costs of making carers redundant.
  • Costs of the notice period for the carer as a condition of their employment.It is important to understand that the policy will only pay redundancy claims if you:
    • Go into full-time residential or nursing care.
    • Pass away.
    • Or if you are told that funds are being reduced or withdrawn. It does not provide cover if you choose to make someone redundant for any other reason.

    The policy will not pay more than:

    • £2,000 per employee or a maximum of £4,000 if more than one employee is made redundant.
    • £450 for the cost of the notice period the carer is entitled to.

Some things it doesn’t cover

  • Cover for plans to make a new arrangement to re-employ the carer being made redundant.

Additional Carer Costs Find out more

Additional Carer Costs

What it covers

  • This cover helps towards the costs if the services of a carer is lost on a temporary basis.
  • It also helps if there’s a need to replace a carer due to summary dismissal or dispute.
  • If a carer is injured at work a benefit of up to £250 per week will be paid for any increased care costs.

The maximum the insurer will pay is £1250 in any one policy year. The insurer will pay up to £300 (including VAT) towards the costs associated to recruiting a replacement carer due to:

  1. A summary dismissal.
  2. The carer providing notice to terminate their employment. The effect is, they are subsequently absent from work due to sickness.

Cover for replacement carer costs for the first 7 days after the date of the injury.

Legal Costs & Expenses relating to employment claims

What it covers

  • Cover for Legal Costs & Expenses relating to employment claims brought against you. The insurance pays towards the cost of defending employment claims brought against you by the employee or former employee in a Civil Court or Employment Tribunal up to £200,000 per claim and up to £2m in any policy year.

Some things it doesn’t cover

A claim may not be covered if you do not follow the conditions below,:

  1. Co-operate fully with your legal representative and Peninsula.
  2. Follow your legal representative’s advice.
  3. Take all necessary steps to keep any amount the Insurer has to pay as low as possible.

  • Access to a 24/7 Employment Law and Health & Safety advice line provided by Peninsula. They can provide advice on many employment topics, including employee disputes.

Some things it doesn’t cover

We must stress that advice must be sought, and followed, from Peninsula before any action is taken against an employee, including summary dismissal, employee disputes, redundancy and/or employment claims. If advice is not sought, and followed, claims may not be covered.
