Fish Insurance celebrates 40 years of business
Fish Insurance has reached our 40th year of business, and we want to share our celebrations with you.
You might not realise it, but Fish Insurance actually began life as a small high street broker and has grown to become one of the UK’s largest providers of disability and independent living insurance.
We were founded by Mike Fish in 1975 as a general insurance brokerage, and in 1986 we shifted our focus to become a pioneer in the Independent Living Insurance market. This evolution came about after Mike was tasked with finding car insurance for a client with paraplegia, only to find that companies were either not prepared to quote or quoted very high premiums.
Mike was appalled by the unfair manner people with disabilities were being treated when trying to arrange motor insurance, so made overcoming discrimination in the insurance industry his priority.
In the years that followed we introduced market-leading policies such as our Disability Motor and Personal Assistant Employment Protection schemes.
In 2014 we launched our home, prosthetics, chaircare and personal health budget insurance products, and this year we launched life insurance and funeral planning products.
Our managing director, John Garrard, says: “To grow and reach the age of 40 a company needs to do more than simply provide a good service at a fair price. From the very beginning Fish Insurance has been keeping things simple and ensuring there is clarity in what we do, giving customers peace of mind so they can live an independent life.”
