Travel Insurance with lymphoma
Remember
- Tell your insurer about any pre-existing medical conditions to make sure you’re fully covered
- Consider covering everyone travelling in your party in case you have to cancel
- Take a copy of your travel insurance documents with you
If you have lymphoma or any other cancer then the process of getting a travel insurance quote can be more complicated than for most. Specialist insurance providers such as AllClear, have experience in dealing with, and covering, such conditions.
What is a lymphoma?
Lymphoma is a cancer affecting the lymph glands or wider lymphatic system which processes the body’s blood. It occurs when lymphocytes (a form of white blood cell) don’t divide or die as they should and collect and form a tumour within in lymph nodes. It usually takes one of two headline forms, Hodgkin lymphoma and non-Hodgkin lymphoma, under which lie variants of the condition. Symptoms include fatigue, fever, weight loss and abdominal, bone and chest pain.
Do I need to declare lymphoma as a pre-existing medical condition when buying travel insurance?
Yes, you must declare you have any form of lymphoma, including Hodgkin disease and non-Hodgkin disease. If you are not asked for a medical declaration be wary of small print as many policies exclude pre-existing health conditions. If you do not fully declare your health then it is possible your insurer will then deny liability for any claims you may later make. This will mean you will be responsible for settling emergency medical bills and other costs your policy might have covered.
Will having lymphoma prevent me from getting travel insurance?
Having lympthoma won’t stop you getting travel insurance, but it may affect your premium and some insurers may seek to place limits or restriction on your cover. However you should be able to arrange effective and competitive travel insurance through a company such as AllClear which specialises in sourcing travel insurance for pre-existing medical conditions and people with chronic health issues or disabilities.
