11 discounts & freebies for over 60s
With the cost of living crisis looming over the UK and more than two million over 60s households unable to afford their living costs, it’s more important than ever to take care of your money.
Luckily, there are a number of great discounts and freebies available to over-60s in the UK, you just need to know where to look for them.
1. Iceland’s over-60’s discount
Over 60s receive a 10% discount on their Iceland shop every Tuesday, with no minimum spend required to benefit. This also applies to The Food Warehouse and is a great way to save on your groceries.
2. Boots’ over-60s reward scheme
Join the Over 60s Reward Scheme at Boots to receive double points every time you shop in-store or online. This means you’ll receive eight points for every £1 you spend, which can then be redeemed in-store. Members are also entered into exclusive prize draws, as well as receiving 25% off their first pair of glasses from Boots Opticians.
3. Senior Railcard
Over 60 and a frequent traveller? Invest in a Senior Railcard to receive 1/3 off your rail fares. Railcards cost £30 for one year, or £70 for three, however, you can receive 50% off your one-year railcard when you pay with your Tesco Clubcard points.
There’s also the National Express Senior Coachcard for 1/3 off standard coach fares, so you can enjoy discounts no matter how you choose to travel.
4. Odeon’s Silver Cinema Club
Enjoy a trip to the movies with Odeon’s Silver Cinema Club. For just £3.50, over 60s can enjoy new releases and timeless classics with complimentary tea, coffee and biscuits. Simply check their website to find out when the Silver Cinema Club is next screening near you.
5. Free TV licence for over 75s
If you or your partner are over 75 and receiving pension credit, you could be eligible for a free TV licence. This can save you £159 per year and means you can enjoy your favourite TV shows live and on catch-up for free. Simply apply online to benefit.
6. 20% off at Specsavers
As we age the risk of sight loss increases, so it’s important to take care of your eyes. Specsavers offer 20% off frames and lenses for over 60s, providing you select from the £69 or above range. They also offer free NHS eye tests to eligible candidates – visit their website to find out more.
7. Free bus pass for over 60s
If you live in England, you can claim your free bus pass when you reach state pension age, whilst in Scotland and Wales, you are eligible once you reach 60. In some circumstances, you may be able to claim your free bus pass earlier than this, so visit the government website to find out more.

10. Free NHS eye tests, dental checks & prescriptions

11. Winter Fuel Payment scheme
If you or a member of your household are over 65, you are eligible for financial support towards your winter energy costs. The UK government provides eligible households with between £150-£300 tax-free to help cover the cost of heating your household between November and December.
